With some iridium handsets that have been left idle for a long time the battery can completely loose all charge to a point the hiring a satellite phone doesn’t recognise the battery is even connected. this is particularly common to iridium 9500, 9505, and 9505a models but it can also effect the 9555 handset in some situations.
When the fault occurs the phone appears as if it wont charge the battery and if you dont have the leather holder on then you may also see a little red led flash on the top of the handset. Most people think the battery has collapsed and just replace the battery but quite often a simple process will fix the problem.
What you need to do is as follows:
1: Remove the phone from the leather holder
2: Plug the charger into the wall and plug in the phone (if using the car charger ensure the contacts are lined up and the light is showing on the charger).
3: While leaving the charger connected, remove the battery from the phone.
4: Hold the power button down for 5 seconds.
5: Insert the battery back into the prepaid satellite phone
6: Note that the charging indicator shows after a couple of seconds.
7: Allow the phone to fully charge and then leave charging for another 5+hours.
If the phone still refuses to charge then double check the charger is working correctly or if possible try an alternative battery to see if the fault lies in the phone, battery, or charger.
